[...] As I said recently to Sue Henderson: I wish I could shoot a lot more performance art. Man or woman in motion. Dance and theater, both which I consider among the purist art forms, because–can you get a lot closer to primal beauty than a man or woman expressing himself or herself through the movement of his or her own body? Is there anything more amazing than the culmination of hours of practice and discipline, that razor separation between control, discipline and unfettered expression? [...]

Wayne - What an interesting interview. I had to open another window to google some of the photographers and works you mentioned because I want to understand quickly!

You might enjoy the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/trip-Susan-Lipper/dp/1576870510/sr=8-17/qid=1159909825/ref=sr_1_17/104-5870677-7605560?ie=UTF8&s=books" rel="nofollow">TRIP</a> - Frederick Barthelme's text and Susan Lipper's photographs. It's wonderful.

Sue, thanks for giving me a chance to talk about photography and writing. Your questions were thought provoking and great fun. Lance, Sarah, PD, Stephanie, Kat--and Sue (!)--you are all much too kind. Thanks for taking the time to read the interview. W

Lance - Next time you're in NY, we're doing KGB for sure.

Sarah - I agree. I'm just mesmerized by Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. And there's one - is it called Welty? - that's photos and text. This makes me hungry to spend an afternoon in the photography section of the bookstore (where I've never gone before) to see what's there.

PD - I love that street scene too. It's comical from that angle.

Stephanie - Some things didn't come through in the interview, and that's what it's like to work with Wayne. He was someone I handpicked to work with me because he is so well-read, such a thorough reader, a great team player, a hard worker, a critical thinker, and then in the end, he has just a really delicate touch when communicating with authors and suggesting edits. He's good and solid and reliable.
