A very interesting author indeed. The way you connect to people is amazing, Susan. You're a shining star with a galaxy of authors and publishers spinning around you. Hats off to another successful interview with a high profile author.

Ellen - They were separated at birth. But who's Tim Daley?

Carolyn - Sigh. I have not been productive this week whatsoever. You guys are reminding me of this.

Greg - It was my pleasure. You are lots of fun.

Richard - Hi! And I'll tell Greg to hurry up and write something else so we can all read more.

Sarah - Ooh, see, now I want to know what you sing at karaoke.

Aurelio - The main sports information you need to know is my Steelers are in crisis right now and I'm very cranky about it.

Juliet - Wow. When Greg's book comes out in paperback, he should snatch that as a blurb.

I've quite enjoyed my myspace "friendship" with Greg, and have listened to his works more than once as the months have gone by. And I'd say the Greg that you've captured in this interview, the man who is more interested in the people who come to his book signings than the "stardom" of being an author is truly who I've encountered.
I'd gladly listen to Greg's stories again and again. I'd say his description of Marah would be my description of Greg:

An author who shares honestly hilarious, sometimes painfully real reflections of self and life and the world, real stories
without an ounce of self-pity or self-promotion.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my copy of "Spit Baths."

I loved this interview. I've known Greg for only a little while, so this filled in a lot of blanks for me.

Hey, and thanks for letting me know what Iggles are, Susan. I wouldda guessed they were some sort of wormy Muppets. (I'll get all this sports lingo down one of these days...)

Great interview. It's nice to see that karaoke isn't just for sloppy drunks and myself. The illustration on the book is so simple and eye-catching. I must go out and find this book soon.

Thank you, Susan, for such fun questions. Jim, great to see you over here. Robin, we must be fairly near neighbors. I'll have to look for your book in Voices & Visions. If only I was separated at birth from Tim Daly! Usually, the comparisons are a little less flattering.

Greg said: I start with a character or a bit of the story or a voice and try to fill in around it. Often there’s a bunch of ideas floating around in my head, and I wait to see which one becomes an itch that I need to scratch.

Hearing this from a PhD affirms my method. Sometimes a character will itch me for years before I can finally reach the place that itches. I just finished one of those stories today. It’s glorious agony while I’m scratching, but the satisfaction is sweet.
