Why is it that peter's sketches have a vitality that is somehow watered down when they are in color? His sketches have sharp edges of character and inner life that his colored works don't. Also, I must note that his rough sketches for 'Hunchback' are one of the best I've seen. Peter, you are the best!

Excellent interview. I've always wanted to know more about how illustrators land which jobs. Thanks, Susan and Peter.

I just renewed my New Yorker subscription and will be on the lookout for more of Peter's work. I've been known to take the covers and post them on a wall in my apartment for months at a time.

And I totally agree with Peter. It's always easier to create something when somebody is waiting on it. I can write six short stories a semester for school, but unless I have an assignment I can find it hard to be motivated. That's why I'm desperately trying to find a small writing group in Chicago to give each other deadlines.

Susan: You've done a good job as interviewer on one of our era's great illustrators. The illustrations that accompany your article are well-selected.
Peter: I love the humour you inject in your compositions, and the loving embellishments and detail that you give to your characters. I never tire reviewing the work that you've accomplished. Chapeau!

Excellent job, Peter!
Thanks for sharing yourself not only wide-spread (as in the New Yorker) but also sharing your thoughts, humour, and insight here.

I can't express how much I appreciate my illustrator, Cybele, or honour her enough.
